CURSE OF COMMONWEALTH

Yes. it’s a curse. Ask media, ask professionals and ask the People of India. They all will agree that indeed these games are a curse. The project is ‘jinxed’ right from the signing of agreement in 2002. They bribed certain countries to  put India as the game grabber. Mani Shankar Aiyar says he knew all that and much more but could not stop them from going ahead. To start with the whole project, including stadia would have costed Rs.615.6 crores if we could have plunged into it in 2003 but that was not to be. Ultimately you would be incurring more than seventy thousand crores in 2010. How can you say we are a ‘poor country’. Why anybody should care as people’s hard earned money is a “haraam ki kamaai”. A housewife goes  a Kilometre to buy vegetables from a weekly “haat” so that she can buy her vegetables a bit cheaper but those involved in C’wealth projects would not care as how the crores of taxpayers’ hard earned money is going down the drain.

It’s a curse because it has made a nation of 130 crore people to become  “a laughing stock” of the whole world . Here is a PM, who is overly obsessed with so called GDP percentages whereas the daily consumption food item index registers an inflation rate of 17.6%. At the fag end of August 2010 when the ridicule came from all sides - not only from India but also other nations of Commonwealth Mr. Singh awakes, visits the venues (or the mess) and asks Baboos to work with ‘double vigour’. Does that inspire even an ordinary worker; forget about his own thick-skinned babus. His Sports Minister an Ex-Babu called ‘Gill’ gives a long lecture in Parliament about the Punjabi wedding where every thing gets settled when the ‘Baraat’ arrives but he avoids answering any specific queries raised by the law makers.

When the rate lists of merchandise bought for the games brought to open by our media the whole nation felt stunned  except “Gill-Kalmadi-Reddy & Co.” and gill said “Maine to kuchh nahin kharida, jinhon ne kharida unse poonchho“.  Corruption was obvious to every naked eye. So it is a curse because people elsewhere have started doubting India’s ability to become an economic powerhouse in the face of such rampant corruption, inefficiency, nepotism and arrogance of Babus like Bhanot, Kalmadi and Reddy. The Delhi CM Ms. Dixit is a class apart since she cared two hoots about the public perception of Delhiites who are facing daily ordeals arising aout of the mess created by the coterie on the roads of Delhi and the people being killed in mishaps like caved roads, potholes and score of other such misdemeanors. The Urban Developement Minister Reddy seems to consider the common people of the country as “Keede-Makode” (insects). These leaders talk a lot about “Child labour “but I have myself seen children of the age from 5 to7 years of age laying tiles on the Connaught Place for Kalmadi-Gill-Reddy & Co. Reddy called the Foot Bridge  incident (in which 27 workers were injured, five of them seriously) to be a ‘MINOR’ ACCIDENT’. Had there been Mr. Reddy’s own  son falling and getting injured under the bridge, would then also Mr. Reddy call it a “minor incident” The problem with the Babus and Minister is they look down on the same masses who vote tem to power

DELAYED COMPLETION of projects is not at all surprising , given the lack of any coordination amongst multiple agencies executing the projects. Anything on this scale would require meticulous planning and coordination. Planning means processes, systems,  strategies, structures contingency plans  and the required resources in-built time schedules, deadlines and alternate strategy . Obviously that would require highest levels of leadership, professionalism, competence, team work and strict adherance to deadlines.

All  big projects employ what they call PERT/CPM techniques whereby PERT charts are prepared and co-ordinated to the dateline progress of the projects and there are meeting points in the chart for co-ordinating related projects. Even a day’s delay is seen as a  very serious transgression. Sadly no such sophisticated techniques were employed for the Commonwealth  projects. .why should they as their eyes were focussed on the bounty or what the public calls the “haraam ki kamaai”. The results are there for all to see.

Unfortunately the public memory is short. Even a dacoit like A.Raja, a henchman of Karunanidhi is being forgotten after swindling 70,000 crores in the 2-G telecom scam and he still is a Cabinet Minister. So all these scoundrels of Commonwealth games will march to their Swiss Bank accounts after completion of these games;   laughing all the way, never to be punished by the government  (both center as well as the Delhi Government) who gave them liberty to loot the poor people of India.  HA!       HA!      HA!      HA!   HA!
